I've been using Phillips Condensed Wood Pellet Bedding for a few weeks now and thought you might like to hear my views. I have, over the years used most types of horse bedding, comfort for the horse, low dust, good absorbency and economy are amongst my highest priorities!
I like my beds to be very deep to avoid the horse getting through to the concrete, particularly when lying down and getting up. I have recently changed two elderly arthritic mares to this bedding because I find it gives an excellent firm base giving them excellent support when lying down, I feel it would be comparable to lying in a field of grass! I used 10 bags per stable intially though I may have got away with less but as I've said I like my beds thick. me a bed of about 6-8 inches thick with small banks. The bedding passed the 'fork' test immediately, ( I drop my fork vertically onto the bed and if the prongs hit the concrete it's too shallow.) Most other bedding I have tried does not form a firm base initially - it can take a week or two for this to happen.
Mucking out is incredibly quick and easy! Droppings sit on the surface of the bed and are easily removed with a narrow tine fork, the clean bedding falls away easily through the tines so the absolute minimum bedding is removed. I also remove the wettest areas (which incidentally seems to stay confined in a small patch) then replace the wet with dry bedding and level off. It takes me 5 minutes to do each stable - marvellous! So far adding one new bag per week seems plenty.

There is no dust - one of the mares has COPD and is difficult to stable successfully - she has had no problems whatsoever.
Another bonus - I also really like the fact that the bedding comes in small easily managed bags, I really struggle with the big rectangular bales of bedding - my arms are just not long enough!

Just a quick note to say how pleased I am with the pellets which I have been using on rubber matting for the last 2 weeks. They have made such a difference to even the wettest of my
cobs and I am working on my friends to change their habits of a life time. Thanks
